We greatly value the trust our consumers place in our extraordinary products for their efficacy and safety. As a company, we pride ourselves in caring for people, communities and the environment.

Animal Testing

The Estée Lauder Companies was one of the first cosmetics companies to eliminate animal testing as a method of determining product safety. We don’t test our products on animals and we don’t ask others to test for us. We acknowledge our brands are sold in countries where animal testing on cosmetics or cosmetic ingredients is required by law. As a global company dedicated to bringing many of the industry’s most beloved products and experiences to our consumers in over 150 countries and territories, we believe it is our responsibility to contribute to the sustainable solution to end animal testing for cosmetics.

Clean Beauty

At The Estée Lauder Companies, we are dedicated to helping our consumers make beauty choices that are right for them. We are committed to increased transparency about the ingredients in our products and we strive to formulate our products with safe ingredients that create the best results.

The Estée Lauder Companies is committed to providing our consumers with safe, prestige beauty products of the highest quality. Consumer safety is our top priority, which is why we are dedicated to the prevention of the illegal sale and distribution of counterfeit products.

We take a serious approach to ending counterfeit activity and work closely with global law enforcement and government agencies to shut down illegal counterfeiting operations and remove counterfeit products from the market.

Human Rights Policy

As we approach human rights in our operations and across our value chain, we aspire to foster respect for people and the environment and to be a positive influence in every community in which we operate and from which we source. Our human rights policy outlines our approach to respect human rights across our global operations and supply chain.

Ingredient Glossary

At The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC), the health and safety of our consumers is a top priority. We select our ingredients for many reasons, including safety, efficacy, and sustainability.

Lead in Lipstick and Other Heavy Metals

Consumer safety is a top priority at The Estée Lauder Companies and our products undergo our rigorous safety evaluation process.

Lead and other heavy metals are never added as ingredients to our products. However, these earth elements are ubiquitous and found naturally in air, water and soil. So they may also be found at extremely low amounts in some of the raw ingredients used in formulating cosmetics, such as lipsticks.

The Estée Lauder Companies committed to voluntarily remove microbeads (defined by industry and state regulations as any intentionally added, 5 mm or less, water insoluble, solid plastic particles used to exfoliate or cleanse in rinse-off personal care products) from our products by the end of our Fiscal Year 2017.

We met this commitment and no longer formulate or ship products with microbeads.

No Deforestation, No Peat, No Exploitation (NDPE) Policy

The Estée Lauder Companies’ (ELC) founding values inspire our commitment to operate responsibly and motivate us to build a sustainable business based on uncompromising ethics, integrity, fairness, diversity and trust. In partnership with our suppliers, our retailers, our consumers and everyone we touch, we aspire to foster our heritage of respect for people and the environment and be a positive influence in every community we serve.

Palm Oil

We are committed to responsible sourcing of palm-based ingredients (palm oil and its derivatives) and are working with suppliers, communities and knowledgeable organizations to find sustainable solutions to palm sourcing.

For more than 30 years, The Estée Lauder Companies has actively supported global breast cancer research, education and medical services, helping to raise millions of dollars to eradicate this disease through its Breast Cancer Campaign.

At The Estée Lauder Companies, citizenship and sustainability are embedded at the core of our business. We know that plastic is among the most pressing sustainability issues today and we are committed to tackling virgin plastic use and working to minimize plastic waste.

Political Engagement

At The Estée Lauder Companies we are committed to the highest standards of professional and personal conduct.

Consistent with the commitment to be a responsible citizen in every community we serve, we conduct our relations with governments in places where we do business in accordance with applicable laws, rules and regulations.

Consumer safety is a top priority at The Estée Lauder Companies, and our ingredients undergo a rigorous protocol of safety evaluation.

We use a variety of approved preservatives, recognized as safe and designed to protect cosmetic products against the growth of bacteria, yeast and mold during storage and consumer use, in our products in accordance with all applicable local and international regulations.

The Estée Lauder Companies strongly believes in the importance of sun protection.

As a company, we devote extensive resources to developing innovative cosmetics, skin care and in-sun products with effective and substantiated UVA and UVB protection.

Sun protection products are regulated differently around the world. We comply with all the local and international regulations in the markets in which our products are sold.

Supply Chain Transparency

At The Estée Lauder Companies, we respect human rights and support transparency in our supply chain. We are committed to upholding the principles contained in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act of 2010.

Forests are key to maintain biodiversity, regulate ecosystems, sequester carbon, support livelihoods, and drive sustainable growth. Ambitious action on deforestation is needed to achieve global climate goals and curb biodiversity loss.

Water Stewardship

We use water as an ingredient to make our products, as well as for cleaning and cooling manufacturing equipment. Our R&D and Quality teams also rely on water to perform testing, in analyses, and to develop new products. Access to high-quality water is essential to our business, and we are committed to reducing our impact on local water resources through implementation of our water stewardship strategy. Additionally, we recognize that water stewardship is important to both mitigating and adapting to the effects of climate change.
