Raising the Family of God
"Who is My mother and who are My brothers?" And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, "Here are My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother." . Matthew 48-50
As brothers and sisters in Christ, we have the distinct privilege of being in the Family of God. As children of privilege, there are a few things that should always be at the forefront of our minds: 1. This privilege came with a price.namely the Blood of Jesus; 2. We did absolutely nothing to earn this privilege.it came by grace; 3. Because we have been given so much...much will be required from us (Lk 12:48); 4. Being privileged does not necessarily mean being rich, nor does being rich mean we are privileged; 5. Privilege does not exempt us from tests, struggles or failure.but it does give us direct access to the "Answer-in-Chief", Jesus Christ. Jesus was well aware that His physical absence from the family could cause conflict within His disciples. He thus found it necessary to exhort them in this way: "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." (John 13:34-25). Jesus must have seen what challenges lay ahead and resorted to an unprecedented addendum to His Fathers "10 commandments". The command to love was necessary, because loving is not the nature of flesh. Likewise, the daily struggles of family life may drive the natural compulsion to spend more of our time, energy and resources to "put out the next fire"; however, the Lord never instructed us to focus on our families, or our issues, but rather on Him. When our sights are set on Jesus, via the lens of the Kingdom of God and the "Ultra High Definition" of the Holy Spirit, the joy of family and the power of endurance will galvanize the energy required for breakthrough of family strongholds.
"Your family and your love must be cultivated like a garden. Time, effort, and imagination must be summoned constantly to keep any relationship flourishing and growing.". Jim Rohn (Motivational Speaker)
"You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them!" - Desmond Tutu
