Overcoming the Fiery Darts

Above all, take the shield of faith, with which you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked!” (Ephesians 6:6)

If only we could all live our lives as believers without daily attacks from the Enemy. We pray, we study God’s Word, and we live lives we believe to be the best we can live, and still … KAAZZAAAM! We get hit, knocked down, and stomped on. Thankfully, there is good news! Jesus has overcome this world and has provided a path for our salvation and a blessed walk in the wilderness of life. The truth is, we need to build that measure of faith we were each afforded by the grace of God. As noted in a previous message, if we try applying the L-A-W (Listening with an ear to hear, Activating our dormant faith, and Walking in the Spirit), then we will likely nurture the fruit of the Spirit with our souls and expand our borders of faith. This substantive faith (Hebrews 11:1) provides the evidence of God’s presence and requires an unadulterated yielding to His Holy Spirit. This kind of faith is also not false, disingenuous, or as Paul describes it… “feigned”. (2 Tim 1:5) Once we hear God’s spoken word in our spirit man, there is no pretending, or faking, or avoiding, or neglecting, or separating, or weakening of faith. Jesus always seemed to rebuke His disciples for their lack of, or limited faith, and expertly worked to sharpen their ability to actually hear what He tried to teach them for three and a half years. And even after all the lessons, miracles, and His ultimate resurrection, according to Matthew (28:17), some doubted. Within this perplexing scripture, there is one of the most fundamental of all truths…we can choose to spend our time and energy questioning the strange and confusing circumstances of life, or we can engage in worship, displace all facets of doubt, quench the enemy’s fiery darts, and overcome our natural inclination to say, “I just don’t believe!” Just ask Job.
